In 1941 Ted Williams was batting .400 going into the final day of the season. His Coach asked if he wanted to sit out to preserve history and Williams responded:
"If I'm going to be a .400 hitter, I want more than my toenails on the line."
He played the double header, went 6 for 8, and finished the season with a .406 batting average.
